Concentric (resilient-seated) designs align the shaft directly in the center of the disc and body, making them ideal for water-related, low-pressure networks. In contrast, double and triple eccentric (triple offset) designs shift the shaft axis off-center. 1. What are the key differences between Concentric, Double Eccentric, and Triple Offset flanged butterfly valves?
Concentric valves have a centered shaft and are typically used in lower pressure water systems. Double eccentric valves feature an offset shaft that lifts the disc off the seat during operation, reducing wear. Triple offset valves add a third angle offset to the sealing surface, enabling friction-free metal-to-metal seating. This design makes them suitable for high-temperature and high-pressure media, such as steam or hydrocarbons.
2. Why is Ductile Iron (GGG40) preferred over Cast Iron (GG25) for high-pressure municipal water lines?
Ductile Iron (EN-GJS-400-15 / GGG40) contains nodular graphite, which provides higher tensile strength, impact resistance, and elongation properties compared to Cast Iron. This structural advantage allows Ductile Iron valves to withstand pressure surges and mechanical stresses in municipal pipelines without cracking.
