A single port exhaust valve is installed at local high points of a pipeline to continuously vent accumulated micro-pockets of air that have exited solution. By releasing these pockets under pressure, it prevents friction head loss, improves flow efficiency, and protects the pipeline from surge pressures (water hammer) caused by the compression of trapped air.

Single port valves typically feature a smaller orifice and are designed to release relatively small volumes of air continuously while the system is under full working pressure. Double port (or compound/dual-orifice) valves have both a small and a large orifice. The large orifice exhausts bulk volumes of air during initial pipe filling and admits massive volumes of air to prevent vacuum collapse during pipe draining.

For corrosive water or chemical handling, we recommend casting the valve body in CF8 or CF8M stainless steel, or using ductile iron bodies lined with a high-durability PTFE layer. Internal floats should be SS316, and the seal seat should be EPDM or Viton (FKM), depending on temperature and chemical profile.
